Ambitions

Life is called a ‘Bitch,’
Because if it was easy
She’d be called a ‘Slut.’

First off, let me clarify that I am not, nor have I ever been, prejudiced against people who are of a different sexual preference than myself. I use these derogatory remarks “Bitch” and “Slut” as ways of highlighting two very specific outlooks on life, and in no way do I harbor sexist sentiments).
Let me explain. “Life’s a Bitch” is a bit of a hallmark statement used as a response to someone befallen with misfortune. See also, “Shit happens.” The effect of such phrases at once provides justification that such-and-such an event is undeserved, while simultaneously designating ‘Life’ among the ranks of cruel and unforgiving mistresses (again, apologies for the likeness). However, it is when the people who are disadvantaged begin to apply this axiom to everything bad in their lives that those people begin to victimize themselves. Yes, Life can be a bitch. And unfair. And your lot may not be wholly deserved. And maybe you have been the victim of Life’s carelessness. But there is a difference between being a victim and playing a victim.
Life is not supposed to be easy. It is supposed to be long, and drawn out, and ceaseless in its mind-numbing constancy. It is literally an uphill battle until the day that you die. To think otherwise is foolish and only serves to prohibit you from developing yourself. Life is a Bitch, but it is also fruitful and rewarding, whereas a Slut is cheap and unsatisfying.
For those of you who might be wondering what might have prompted me to write this, I say nothing in particular. I have always lived by the principle that the easy way is usually not the right way, that the right way to do something requires as much work as it takes to gain a complete understanding of the task at hand.
