Happy Humpday Haiku #17
All The Feelings
So many flowers
And "Thank You"s from moms and dads.
Mission Accomplished.
So I mentioned earlier this week that I had to change into a suit to impress the parents of the children I was teaching the "Princess Beauty" to (side note: I was the only teacher asked to do this, even though we were all dressed in the manner). Despite the whole being-made-a-spectacle-of, the performances went pretty well. That might have something to do with the extra practice my class put in to making sure that they knew the material like the back of their hand. For the ten school days leading up to the show, we had two or three additional rehearsals, cutting into just about every other teachers' class time. For all the extra effort I know the students could've performed better during the show. It was a bit lackluster, but thankfully the parents didn't seem to notice.
After both performances the children reunited with their parents, and I was left to solidify underneath the glaze of perspiration engulfing my body (both due to the anxiety of speaking in front of the parents and wearing a fucking suit in a room with 40 other people in the middle of summer). That's when some of the kids started to come up to me with bouquets in their hands. I thought they just wanted to show me the flowers their respective parents had given to them. Sure enough they were handing them to me. After four bouquets were left in my care, the mothers and fathers started greeting me and asked to take pictures with their children. And then with them.
It's always reassuring to hear your work be praised, especially from the ones who are most important. To hear the mothers say that they put their complete trust in me as a teacher is mind-boggling. It very well might be the case that they have their "Western Goggles" on (akin to "Beer Goggles," but less harmful to social standing). Regardless, I'll take what I can get. As long as they're happy, what more needs to be done?
