Happy Humpday Haiku #63
That Moment
When you announce the
Winner, and are shocked to see
Second place whimper.
Every two months our elementary students present speeches on a variety of topics. This month was family. Each class presents to the other classes, but there is a winner from each class. I teach an elementary class consisting entirely of eight year old students who graduated from our kindergarten as seven year olds. The child who won from this class edged out a point over second place. The girl who came in second is a model student: polite, respectful, brilliant, diligent, and funny. I've also never seen her take anything serious before. So it was truly surprising when I announced the winner and she looked absolutely disappointed in herself. Then I gave her candy and told her she beat third place by fifteen points. She smiled.
